Description
Labisia Posthumusiana Sunarno (Labisia Dark Leaf)
Labisia Posthumusiana was described by Sunarno as part of a broader revision of the Labisia genus, and named in honor of botanist Posthumus. A genuinely rare species with narrow leaves, it's known mainly from isolated pockets of densely forested habitat within its native range, and remains less studied than its famous relative, Labisia pumila (Kacip Fatimah).
Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.
Care tip: As with other Labisia, this species is sensitive to sudden shifts in its growing environment — aim for stable, consistent light and humidity rather than frequent changes.
Give it low to medium filtered light, consistently moist humus-rich soil, and warm, stable temperatures reflecting its dense forest understory habitat. Its dark foliage — the source of its trade name "Dark Leaf" — sets it apart visually from the more commonly seen green and pink Labisia pumila forms.
A genuinely uncommon species even among Labisia specialists — its growth habits are still being documented, making it a real find for collectors interested in the lesser-known corners of this culturally significant genus.
