Hoya Coriacea is native to Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, where it grows as a vigorous, fast-climbing epiphyte on trees and mossy rocks in humid forest. Its species name — Latin for "leathery" — describes the texture of its thin but tough, glossy leaves, which reach up to 15 x 7 cm and show fine, visible veining over a grassy mid-green.
Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.
Care tip: This is a fast, vigorous grower that will quickly outgrow a small pot — plan to move it to a trellis sooner rather than later.
The flowers are the real showpiece: dense, globe-shaped umbels the size of a baseball, packed with 35 to 75 golden-yellow, fuzzy, star-shaped blooms, each with a white corona and a purple or red center, releasing a spicy citrus fragrance. Give it bright indirect to full sun, a well-draining but somewhat moisture-retentive mix (its thin leaves prefer slightly more consistent water than thicker-leaved Hoya), and plenty of room to climb.
Considered one of the more hardy, beginner-friendly Hoya species despite its dramatic flower display — a good choice for growers who want a genuinely showy bloom without a temperamental plant.
