Aridarum sp. Perisai was traded under the Aridarum name before being described as Josefia intricata, an entirely new genus and species within the Schismatoglottideae tribe, from Kalimantan Tengah (Central Kalimantan), Indonesian Borneo. Like true Aridarum, it belongs to the broader group of Bornean rheophytic aroids — plants specifically adapted to grow directly in fast-flowing stream habitats, compared taxonomically to the related genera Burttianthus and Pursegloveia.
Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.
Care tip: Treat as a true rheophyte — constant moisture and excellent water movement around the roots matter more than soil richness for this genus.
Give it deep shade to low, filtered light, a mineral, fast-draining substrate kept constantly wet, and stable warm temperatures. A paludarium or bog-style setup with running or frequently changed water recreates its native shale or sandstone stream habitat far better than a standard pot.
A great example of just how recently Bornean stream aroid taxonomy continues to be revised — this plant went from an "Aridarum" trade name to its own newly described genus, reflecting real, ongoing botanical fieldwork in Central Kalimantan.
