Alocasia Tandurusa was described in 2023 by Prameswara and A. Hay, a genuinely recent addition to the genus, native to the rainforests of Sulawesi where it grows terrestrially on the dark, humid forest floor. It carries large, arrowhead-shaped leaves with a velvety texture, deep green overall and marked by light green, prominent veining that stands out sharply against the darker leaf surface.
Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.
Care tip: Give it good air circulation and steady conditions — this species dislikes drafts and sudden temperature swings, having only just adapted to cultivation since its 2023 description.
This grows into a moderate-sized Alocasia, making a genuine focal point in a larger collection. Give it bright indirect light, warm daytime temperatures with a slightly cooler night, and high humidity through regular misting or a humidity tray, along with a well-draining substrate typical of forest-floor Alocasia.
As one of the newest formally described Alocasia species in the trade, this is a genuine piece of very recent botanical discovery — a Sulawesi endemic that most collectors are only now getting the chance to grow.
