Red Jungle Val
Red Jungle Val
Red Jungle Val is a tall, dramatic Vallisneria producing long, broad ribbon leaves with warm reddish tints that create striking color contrast in the background of larger aquariums. One of the very few Vallisneria forms with genuine warm coloration — the reddish tones combined with the long, sweeping ribbon leaves create a background of unusual and appealing warmth that plain green Val forms cannot match.
Care tip: Red Jungle Val is one of the most adaptable aquarium plants — tolerates a wide pH range including alkaline water up to 7.5. No CO₂ required. Propagates readily via runners — trim runners to control spread in smaller aquariums.
Growing to 20 to 36 inches, Red Jungle Val is a large background plant best suited to aquariums of 30 gallons or more where the long, reddish leaves can develop freely without immediately touching the surface. It propagates vigorously via runners and spreads quickly to fill available background space. The reddish tones are most vivid under moderate lighting — one of the more cold-tolerant large Vallisneria forms.
This easy plant requires no CO₂ supplementation and grows in moderate lighting. The broad temperature range of 68 to 82°F reflects genuine cold tolerance and adaptability. A pH of 6.5 to 7.5 provides comfortable conditions. Regular fertilization maintains the vigorous growth and the warm reddish tones. Runner management is important in enclosed aquariums where growth can quickly fill the available space.
In the aquascape, Red Jungle Val creates a bold, warm-toned background of long sweeping reddish ribbons that adds color and drama to larger planted aquariums. The combination of size, movement, and warm color creates a uniquely dynamic background presence. In North American biotope setups it is a botanically appropriate and visually impressive species.
Red Jungle Val is a dramatically warm-colored large Vallisneria for aquarists with spacious aquariums who want the classic Val flowing background character with the addition of genuine reddish warmth. Its impressive size, warm color, and easy care make it a distinctive and rewarding background plant for larger planted setups.
