Ludwigia Peruensis

Ludwigia Peruensis is a demanding but spectacular South American Ludwigia producing deep red to purple leaves under high light and CO₂ — some of the deepest, most saturated warm tones achievable in the Ludwigia genus. The intense red-purple coloration represents the extreme end of the Ludwigia color spectrum and creates a background display of extraordinary visual power in high-tech aquascapes that can meet its exacting requirements.

Care tip: Ludwigia Peruensis grows best in high lighting with CO₂ required. Maintain temperatures of 72–82°F and pH 5.5–7.5. Regular liquid fertilization supports healthy growth and best coloration.

Growing to 12 to 20 inches, Ludwigia Peruensis is a tall background plant that requires meticulous management to maintain its best color and compact growth. Without high light and CO₂ the vivid red-purple fades rapidly and the plant grows leggy and unattractive. With proper conditions, groups of vibrantly colored Peruensis stems create a background of unmatched deep red-purple intensity.

As an advanced plant, Peruensis requires CO₂ injection and high lighting — these are non-negotiable requirements for any acceptable growth or color. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH of 5.5 to 7.5 — an unusually wide range — provide flexibility in water chemistry. Consistent, nutrient-rich fertilization is essential. The chart's designation as a very demanding species is accurate and should be taken seriously.

In the aquascape, Ludwigia Peruensis creates a deep red-purple background display that represents the most intense warm color achievable from a commonly available stem plant. Groups of well-maintained Peruensis in the background create a saturated color mass that dominates the rear zone and creates powerful visual contrast against any green or blue-green plant in the foreground and midground.

Ludwigia Peruensis is the ultimate deep red-purple background plant for advanced aquarists with high-tech setups. Its demanding requirements are matched by an extraordinary color reward — one of the deepest, most spectacular warm-toned backgrounds achievable in the freshwater planted aquarium.
