Cryptocoryne Wendtii Flamingo
Cryptocoryne Wendtii Flamingo
Cryptocoryne Wendtii Flamingo is one of the most striking and coveted Cryptocoryne cultivars in the hobby, producing vivid pink to magenta leaves under strong light and CO₂ — a color so unusual and intense among Cryptocoryne that it immediately attracts attention in any planted aquarium. High light is essential for the best pink expression; under lower light conditions the leaves shade toward a more muted pink-green that, while still attractive, lacks the vivid magenta intensity this plant is capable of achieving.
Care tip: Cryptocoryne Wendtii Flamingo may experience some leaf melt when first introduced to a new aquarium — this is a normal acclimation response and the plant will recover fully once established. A nutrient-rich substrate and stable water parameters minimize this response and support the best long-term growth.
As a wendtii-group cultivar, Flamingo is more demanding than standard wendtii varieties — the chart confirms it as moderate in difficulty with a very slow growth rate. This slow growth means patience is required, but the upside is that a well-established Flamingo holds its position and its vivid color for a long time. Like all Crypts, it may experience leaf melt upon introduction. A nutrient-rich substrate, stable conditions, and adequate light are particularly important for this color-demanding cultivar.
Cryptocoryne Wendtii Flamingo requires high lighting and CO₂ supplementation is recommended for the most vivid pink expression and compact growth. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH of 6.0 to 7.5 provide comfortable conditions. Consistent fertilization with iron and micronutrients supports the intense pink pigmentation. The very slow growth rate means each new leaf is an event worth appreciating — and the color of new growth is typically the most vivid on the plant.
In the aquascape, Cryptocoryne Wendtii Flamingo is most effective as a featured midground specimen where its vivid pink coloration becomes the focal point of the entire composition. The intense pink-magenta tones create extraordinary color contrast against green plants, dark substrate, and natural hardscape. In high-tech planted tanks it provides a Cryptocoryne color experience that rivals the most spectacular stem plants.
Cryptocoryne Wendtii Flamingo is a collector's treasure and a color experience unlike any other Cryptocoryne. For aquarists with high-light, CO₂-enriched tanks, it delivers one of the most breathtaking color displays in the freshwater plant hobby.
