Bucephalandra Silver Powder
Bucephalandra Silver Powder
Bucephalandra Silver Powder is a uniquely beautiful variety featuring broad, textured leaves with a striking silver to gray-green coloration that appears dusted with fine metallic powder under aquarium lighting. The silvery sheen that plays across the leaf surface in proper lighting is one of the most unusual and captivating color effects available in the freshwater plant hobby, making Silver Powder a sought-after specimen for collectors and detail-focused aquascapers.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra Silver Powder can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
As a Bornean species from Indonesia, Silver Powder can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to driftwood or stone at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. Like all Bucephalandra, it can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Silver Powder grows to 2 to 4 inches and thrives in low to moderate lighting. The silvery sheen is most pronounced under moderate, well-aimed lighting. CO₂ supplementation is not required, and the plant adapts comfortably to temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH of 6.0 to 7.5. Regular liquid fertilization maintains the broad, healthy leaf structure and the distinctive metallic surface quality.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra Silver Powder is most effective as a foreground accent on clean stone or pale driftwood where the silver coloring can be seen clearly against a contrasting background. Pairing it with deep green or dark-colored plants makes the silver quality pop most dramatically.
Bucephalandra Silver Powder is a botanical treasure for collectors who appreciate subtle, sophisticated beauty. Its unusual silver coloration, broad textured leaves, and low-maintenance care make it a genuinely special plant in any collection.
