Bucephalandra Dark Emerald
Bucephalandra Dark Emerald
Bucephalandra Dark Emerald is a clean, elegant variety celebrated for its small to medium, deep green wavy leaves that combine rich emerald color with an organic, undulating leaf form. Unlike the more iridescent or multicolored Bucephalandra cultivars, Dark Emerald makes its statement through the quality and depth of a single, perfectly saturated green — a refined botanical presence that suits both minimalist and naturalistic aquascape designs.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra Dark Emerald can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
As a native of Indonesia's fast-flowing streams, Dark Emerald can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to driftwood or stone at any height in the aquarium. The rhizome must never be fully buried. It shares the signature Bucephalandra ability to produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Dark Emerald grows to 2 to 4 inches and thrives in low to moderate lighting without requiring CO₂ supplementation. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH of 6.0 to 7.5 provide ideal conditions. Regular liquid fertilization supports the production of new wavy leaves with the rich, saturated green color that defines this variety.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra Dark Emerald is a versatile foreground to midground plant whose deep color and textured leaves create depth and visual weight. It pairs exceptionally well with pale or silver-toned Bucephalandra varieties where the color contrast between deep emerald and lighter tones is most dramatic. On natural stone or darker driftwood, its emerald leaves glow with remarkable clarity.
Bucephalandra Dark Emerald is a plant for aquarists who appreciate the power of pure, saturated color. Its refined appearance, hardy nature, and classic Bucephalandra reliability make it a cornerstone variety worth having in any collection.
