Anubias Nancon
Anubias Nancon
Anubias Nancon is a very compact Anubias cultivar growing to just 2 to 4 inches with dark leaves and a foreground-focused growth habit. The care chart describes it as having very compact structure with dark leaves ideal for nano tanks and tight spaces — a perfect description for a plant whose small scale and deep coloration make it naturally suited to the most precise foreground and hardscape work in small aquariums.
Planting tip: Never bury the rhizome in substrate — Anubias Nancon should always be attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape with the rhizome fully exposed. Use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
As with all Anubias, Nancon is extremely easy to keep. Low lighting, low CO₂ needs, temperatures between 72 and 82°F, and a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5 cover a broad range of aquarium conditions. Regular liquid fertilization supports steady, healthy growth and maintains the deep leaf color. Consistent water conditions produce the most reliable and attractive growth in this compact cultivar.
Anubias Nancon must be attached to hardscape rather than planted in substrate. The compact dark leaves are well suited to small pieces of driftwood, detailed stone, or the narrow crevices of rock formations where the plant's small scale is a practical advantage. Thread or aquarium adhesive both provide reliable initial attachment.
In the aquascape, Anubias Nancon is a specialist foreground plant whose dark, compact nature allows it to occupy tight spaces where larger plants would be out of proportion. In nano tanks it serves as a midground statement plant in a very small footprint. Paired with other compact Anubias varieties in collection displays, Nancon provides a dark, compact anchor that balances the variety of sizes and forms around it. A useful and attractive cultivar for nano enthusiasts.
