Anubias Congensis Broad

Anubias Congensis Broad is a wider-leaved selection of Anubias congensis, growing to 12 to 16 inches with long, broad, spear-shaped leaves on thick rhizomes. The chart describes these as great for attaching to driftwood or rocks — appropriate guidance for a plant whose substantial leaf size and bold form are best displayed on prominent, natural hardscape materials where the combination of leaf size and shape can make its full impression.

Planting tip: Never bury the rhizome in substrate — Anubias Congensis Broad should always be attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape with the rhizome fully exposed. Use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.

In terms of care, Anubias Congensis Broad is as undemanding as any Anubias. It grows well in low to moderate lighting without CO₂ supplementation. The pH range is noted as 6.5 to 7.5 — slightly narrower and less acidic than most Anubias varieties, worth keeping in mind for aquariums with softer, more acidic water. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F provide ideal conditions. Regular liquid fertilization supports the development of the full, broad leaves that characterize this selection.

The rhizome of Anubias Congensis Broad must be attached to driftwood or stone and kept above the substrate at all times. The broader leaves of this selection suit medium to large pieces of hardscape where the full leaf width has space to develop.

In the aquascape, Anubias Congensis Broad works well as a midground to background plant in tanks of moderate size and larger. The broader leaves add visual mass and create a bold, structured presence in the layout. It pairs effectively with fine-leaved stem plants, mosses, and smaller Anubias varieties where the difference in leaf size creates a naturalistic sense of depth. A bold, handsome plant.
