Labisia sp. Snake Skin is a Bornean understory herb previously circulated in the trade under the related genus name Ardisia before being more accurately placed within Labisia — both genera sit within the primrose and myrsine plant groups and share a similar low, shaded understory growth habit. Its trade name references a scaled, snake-skin-like leaf texture or pattern.
Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.
Care tip: Labisia and their close relatives are sensitive to sudden shifts in microclimate — aim for stable, consistent light, temperature, and humidity rather than frequent changes.
Give it low to medium filtered light, consistently moist humus-rich soil, and warm, stable temperatures reflecting its shaded forest floor habitat. As with many Bornean finds still working through identification, exact appearance and mature growth habit will vary — the photo shows a mature reference specimen — your bare-root plant will typically be smaller.
