Begonia Lichenora was formally described in 2017 and is endemic to Borneo, known from Bau District and Padawan in Sarawak near the Indonesian border, where it grows along the soil on shaded slopes of dipterocarp forest around 100 meters elevation. It's a true miniature — a vine-like, creeping species with tiny leaves that stay under an inch, pressed close to the substrate in a way that inspired its name, referencing how the foliage resembles a patch of lichen.
Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.
Care tip: This species dislikes water sitting on its leaves and can be fickle — mist the substrate rather than the foliage, and keep humidity above 75% in an enclosed terrarium setting.
Bright green leaves carry a lime-green vein and a faint, glittery iridescent sheen. Given room to climb and a consistently humid terrarium environment, it fills in background space nicely and is a vigorous, reliable bloomer, producing abundant tiny white flowers with a subtle pink tint. Moist sphagnum moss helps it root and establish.
A genuinely tiny, recently described Bornean species — its creeping, ground-hugging growth habit and glinting leaf texture make it a distinctive addition to any terrarium foreground.
