Alocasia Reginae was described by N.E. Brown and is native to Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo. Its species name — Latin for "the queen" — suits its regal reputation among collectors, who often know it by the trade name "Silver Velvet." Leaves are sagittate, blackish-green with a rough, textured surface, framed by stout, dark veining that gives the whole leaf a dramatic, almost armored look, with a contrasting purplish-red underside.

Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.

Care tip: Give this species real humidity — 70% or higher — and avoid repotting immediately after arrival; let it settle for a week or two before making any changes.

In good shade and a porous, well-draining medium, this species reaches roughly 30 cm tall and produces foliage readily. Give it bright indirect light, a loose well-draining potting mix, and keep the medium lightly moist rather than soggy — only watering once the top layer has begun to dry.

A genuinely dramatic, dark-leaved Bornean species that lives up to its regal name — a strong pick for collectors drawn to moody, textured, high-contrast Alocasia foliage.
