Description

APT Feast

APT Feast is 2HR Aquarist's own aquasoil — the foundation you build the whole tank on, not a supplement you add to it. It's a highly organic, nutrient-rich substrate engineered around the same Capstone philosophy as the APT fertilizers, packing more than twice the nitrogen of conventional "big brand" aquasoils. The organic-mineral granules hold their shape and resist breaking down, releasing nutrients in a slow, even stream for 12 months or more, so for the better part of a year your rooted plants are fed from below with no extra root tabs required.

At Cuboid, the APT range is what we run in our own aquascaping display tanks — products we use ourselves day in and day out, and recommend without hesitation to anyone serious about a planted aquarium.

Why It's Different: Beyond raw nutrition, APT Feast actively shapes your water chemistry: it gently softens the water and buffers pH into the ideal 6.2–6.6 range that most aquatic plants and softwater livestock prefer. Its high organic content also jump-starts beneficial microbial life and fast root development, building the stable, bioactive ecosystem that keeps water crystal clear and plants ahead of algae. 2HR sums it up as a substrate that brings "richer colors and stronger growth that endures."

For a serious aquascaper, that combination — dense nutrition, long life, soft buffered water, and microbial stability — is the difference between a tank that struggles at week six and one that just keeps getting better. It rewards a proper warm/dark start, and pairs naturally with APT liquid fertilizers in the water column and APT Jazz down the road when you eventually want to top the substrate back up.

Dosing Guidelines: APT Feast is your main substrate, not an additive — lay it down as the base layer at roughly 1.5–2.5 inches (4–6 cm) deep across the planted areas, sloping it higher toward the back for depth. No root fertilization is needed for the first year. For best results, give the tank a proper start (a dark-start period with water changes before planting) and run CO2 and regular maintenance. 2HR's site offers a substrate volume calculator to estimate how much you'll need for your footprint.
