Description
Epipremnum Aureum
Epipremnum Aureum, commonly called Golden Pothos or Devil's Ivy, is native to Mo'orea in the Society Islands of French Polynesia, though it has since become naturalized across the tropics worldwide — including Southeast Asia, where it's known in Indonesian and Malay as "Sirih Gading" (golden betel vine). Its genus name comes from Greek for "upon a trunk," describing how it climbs tree trunks using aerial roots in the wild.
Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.
Care tip: Given a support to climb rather than left to trail, this species thickens up and produces dramatically larger, more deeply lobed mature leaves — quite different from the small juvenile foliage most people know it by.
Give it bright, indirect light (variegated leaves need more light to hold their pattern, while low light shifts the plant toward solid green), well-draining soil, and water once the top inch has dried. It's genuinely one of the most forgiving houseplants available, tolerating low light, irregular watering, and general neglect better than almost anything else in the aroid family.
One of the most widely grown houseplants on Earth — economically significant in the commercial foliage trade — and a genuine testament to just how adaptable a well-suited aroid can be.
