Golden Rasbora
Golden Rasbora
Golden Rasbora (Rasbora bangkanensis) is a warm golden-yellow to amber rasbora from the islands of Bangka and Belitung off the southeastern coast of Sumatra — the species name bangkanensis references Bangka Island, its type locality. The warm golden body with subtle patterning has a clean, elegant simplicity that rewards close observation. A relatively rarely imported species with locality significance.
Feeding & Care Tip: Sera Vipan Tropical Flakes and Hikari Micro Pellets make excellent daily staples. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Baby Brine Shrimp, Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Tubifex Worms, or Hikari Vibra Bites. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.
Native to the rivers and streams of Bangka and Belitung islands, Indonesia — islands between Sumatra and Borneo known for their blackwater peat swamp habitats. Soft, slightly acidic water reflecting the tannin-rich streams of these Southeast Asian islands.
Keep in groups of at least 8. The golden body coloration is most vivid in well-conditioned fish in soft, slightly acidic water. Compatible with all peaceful community species.
A locality-significant island rasbora — the Bangka and Belitung islands have a distinct fish fauna from the Sumatran mainland, making this a collector-interest species for Sunda region biotopes.
