Zoo Med Mopani Wood (Small) is a small piece of natural two-tone African mopani hardwood — the light-tan-and-deep-brown driftwood prized for its sculpted shapes — sized for nano tanks, betta tanks, and terrariums. Dense and long-lasting, it makes a natural centerpiece and a great anchor for moss and epiphyte plants.
Good to Know: Mopani is dense and durable, sinks more readily than lighter woods, and releases tannins that gently soften and tint the water (a plus for blackwater fish and shrimp). Soak it first if you'd rather minimize the initial tea-colored tint.
Preparation: New driftwood leaches tannins that tint the water a natural tea color (harmless, and many aquascapers love the blackwater look). To reduce it, soak the wood for a few days to a couple of weeks, changing the water, before adding it. Most woods need weighting or anchoring until waterlogged enough to sink.
Each piece is natural and one-of-a-kind, so size, shape, and color vary — part of the appeal when building a unique scape.
