Weco Hollow Wood is a natural hollow driftwood piece that doubles as both décor and a ready-made cave. The hollow form gives fish, plecos, loaches, and shrimp a secure place to shelter and spawn, while the natural wood anchors an aquascape and provides biofilm grazing and a surface for attaching moss and epiphytes.
Good to Know: A built-in cave is genuinely useful — it reduces stress for shy and bottom-dwelling fish by giving them somewhere to retreat, and many catfish and plecos will use a hollow log as a spawning site. It looks great half-buried in the substrate or as a standalone feature.
Preparation: New driftwood leaches tannins that tint the water a natural tea color (harmless, and many aquascapers love the blackwater look). To reduce it, soak the wood for a few days to a couple of weeks, changing the water, before adding it. Most woods need weighting or anchoring until waterlogged enough to sink.
Each piece is natural and one-of-a-kind, so size, shape, and color vary — part of the appeal when building a unique scape.
