Vallisneria Striped
Vallisneria Striped
Vallisneria Striped is a distinctive Asian Vallisneria producing compact, twisted narrow leaves with attractive random brown stripes or speckles that add subtle visual variety to the typically plain-leaved Val background. The irregular natural patterning means no two leaves are identically striped — a naturally variable, organically patterned background plant that adds botanical interest alongside the reliable, easy-growing Val performance that aquarists depend on.
Care tip: Vallisneria Striped is one of the most adaptable aquarium plants — tolerates a wide pH range including alkaline water up to 8.0. No CO₂ required. Propagates readily via runners — trim runners to control spread in smaller aquariums.
Growing to 12 to 20 inches, Vallisneria Striped is a natural background plant that propagates readily via runners, gradually filling the background zone with increasingly dense, patterned foliage. Like all Vallisneria, it is one of the most adaptable aquarium plants available — tolerating a notably wide range of pH including alkaline water conditions where many other plants struggle.
This easy plant requires no CO₂ supplementation and grows in low to moderate lighting. The wide pH range of 6.5 to 8.0 reflects exceptional water chemistry adaptability. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F provide comfortable conditions. Regular fertilization maintains healthy growth and the distinctive striped patterning. Runner management may be needed in smaller tanks as the plant spreads.
In the aquascape, Vallisneria Striped creates a naturally patterned background of flowing, twisted leaves whose striping adds botanical interest to what might otherwise be a plain green background. The patterning is most visible in clean, well-maintained water where individual leaves can be clearly seen. In larger tanks the natural movement of the striped leaves in the current creates an appealing, shifting pattern display.
Vallisneria Striped is an easy-care, patterned background plant for aquarists who want the reliable performance of Vallisneria with added visual variety from the natural striped leaf patterning. Its adaptability and distinctive coloration make it a practical and botanically interesting background choice.
