Seachem Purigen is a premium synthetic filtration media that polishes water to a clarity most other media can't match. Rather than simply trapping debris, it chemically adsorbs dissolved organic waste before it breaks down into ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate — so it reduces the nitrogen load at the source, controls odors and discoloration, and leaves water looking genuinely crystal clear.
Good to Know: Purigen's signature trick is that it tells you when it's full — the beads turn from off-white to dark brown as they exhaust — and then it regenerates: a soak in a bleach solution followed by a dechlorinator rinse restores it to like-new, so one bag lasts for years. Place it in a high-flow area of your filter for best contact. (Note it isn't compatible with phosphate-based buffers like Neutral Regulator.)
For a planted or show aquascape, Purigen is the difference between "clean" and "invisible" water — and by lowering dissolved organics it removes a key food source for nuisance algae.
Dosing Guidelines: Use 1 unit (this volume) per the package's rated tank volume, placed in a mesh bag where water flows through it. Replace or regenerate when the beads turn brown. To regenerate, soak in a 1:1 bleach–water solution, rinse, then treat with a strong dechlorinator before reuse.
