Seachem Prime is the gold-standard water conditioner and the single bottle most aquarists reach for first. It removes chlorine and chloramine from tap water the instant it's added, but it goes well beyond a basic dechlorinator: it also detoxifies ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, and binds heavy metals like copper that hide in municipal water. On top of that it supports the fish's natural slime coat, the first line of defense against stress and infection during a water change.
Good to Know: Prime is famously concentrated, so a small bottle lasts a remarkably long time. Because it detoxifies ammonia and nitrite without harming your biofilter, it doubles as an emergency tool — Seachem notes a 5× dose may be used safely in a serious ammonia or nitrite spike. It does have a faint sulfur smell when poured (completely normal), and it can be pre-mixed into aged water and stored for days.
For an aquascaper it means one reliable product handles every water change and buys your livestock a 48-hour safety margin whenever parameters wobble. It's safe for fish, shrimp, plants, and beneficial bacteria alike.
Dosing Guidelines: Use 1 capful (5 mL) per 50 gallons of new water — for smaller tanks, each cap thread is roughly 1 mL, so about 1 mL per 10 gallons. Dose for the volume of water you're adding when treating it separately, or for the full tank volume if adding tap water directly. In an ammonia/nitrite emergency, up to a 5× dose is safe. Use a small syringe for accurate nano-tank dosing.
