Seachem Neutral Regulator is a phosphate-based buffer that drives pH to a rock-steady 7.0 — from either a higher or a lower starting point — and holds it there. It softens water by precipitating calcium and magnesium, and as a bonus it also removes chlorine and chloramine and detoxifies ammonia, so it doubles as a water conditioner. Its phosphate buffering system is exceptionally strong and stable, which makes it a favorite for fish-only setups, quarantine tanks, and fry tanks where a dependable neutral pH matters most.
Good to Know: Because it's phosphate-based, Seachem specifically does not recommend it for planted aquariums — elevated phosphate can fuel algae. For planted tanks, their carbonate-based Acid and Alkaline Buffers are the better choice. Neutral Regulator shines in non-planted roles: quarantine, hospital, and breeding tanks where bulletproof pH stability is the priority. To target a pH below 7.0, combine it with Acid Buffer or Discus Buffer; above 7.0, with Alkaline Buffer.
For our customers running a separate quarantine or grow-out tank, it's a simple way to give new or recovering fish the calm, stable water they need.
Dosing Guidelines: Use 5 g (1 level teaspoon) per 10–20 gallons, once or twice a month, or as needed to hold pH at 7.0. It may be dosed daily at first to reach the target. No separate dechlorinator is needed when using it.
