Seachem Black Humate is a rich source of humic acids and humates — the natural substances that give blackwater habitats their character — in a granular form for the substrate or filter. Added to a planted tank, it conditions the substrate and water with humic substances that benefit plants and fish: supporting root development, gently softening and acidifying water, and recreating the natural conditions blackwater species evolved in.
Good to Know: Humic substances are increasingly valued in the hobby for shrimp and blackwater fish — they support immune health and natural behavior, and gently tint the water the amber of a natural stream (which many aquascapers love). It's a natural complement to an active soil and to botanicals like leaves and cholla wood. Available in 4.4 and 8.8 lb bags.
How to Use: Mix into the substrate when setting up, or place in the filter, per the label for your tank size. Expect a natural tea-colored tint that settles over time; reduce the amount if you prefer clearer water.
