Seachem Alkaline Buffer is a non-phosphate, carbonate-based buffer that raises pH and builds carbonate hardness (KH) — the buffering reserve that keeps pH from swinging. Being phosphate-free, it's made for the planted aquarium, where it can establish a stable KH without the algae-feeding phosphates of other pH products.
Good to Know: It's the partner to Acid Buffer. On its own, Alkaline Buffer sets your KH; combined with Acid Buffer in the ratios on Seachem's chart, the two let you target and hold a specific pH. In a CO2-injected planted tank, a sensible KH from Alkaline Buffer also gives you a stable reference for tracking pH against your CO2.
For aquascapers building water up from RO, it's the clean, plant-safe way to add the carbonate backbone your tank needs to stay chemically steady.
Dosing Guidelines: To raise pH, use 1 teaspoon (6 g) per 20 gallons daily until the desired pH is reached — each dose raises KH by about 2.8 dKH. For a specific pH target, use with Acid Buffer following Seachem's ratio chart. Re-dose at water changes to maintain.
