Seachem Acid Buffer
- Low stock - 5 items left
Seachem Acid Buffer is a non-phosphate, carbonate-based buffer used to lower pH and, in partnership with Alkaline Buffer, to lock in a precise, stable pH. Because it's phosphate-free, it's specifically designed for the planted aquarium, where the phosphate buffers found in some pH products would feed algae. As it lowers pH, it converts carbonate hardness (KH) into available CO2 — a nice bonus for plant growth.
Good to Know: Acid Buffer and Alkaline Buffer are meant to be used as a pair: Alkaline Buffer sets your KH, and Acid Buffer reacts with it to dial in the exact pH you want, using Seachem's ratio chart. Used together they give planted-tank keepers fine control over pH and KH without the algae risk of a phosphate buffer like Neutral Regulator or Discus Buffer.
It's the buffer of choice when you're running a planted scape on RO or soft water and want to hold a specific, gentle pH for plants and soft-water species.
Dosing Guidelines: To lower pH, use 1/4 teaspoon (2 g) per 20 gallons daily until the desired pH is reached (this lowers KH by about 0.6 dKH per dose); harder, more alkaline water may need more. For a target pH, pair with Alkaline Buffer per Seachem's ratio chart. Thereafter, re-dose monthly or at water changes to maintain.
