Purple Cabomba Furcata

Purple Cabomba Furcata is a challenging South American Cabomba producing fine, feathery leaves with vibrant red to purple coloration under optimal high-light conditions — a deeper, cooler-toned alternative to Red Cabomba whose purple-red tones create a rich, jewel-like feathery background display. The combination of fine feathery texture and vivid red-purple coloration is unique among commonly available aquarium plants.

Care tip: Purple Cabomba Furcata grows best in high lighting with CO₂ recommended. Maintain temperatures of 72–82°F and pH 5.0–7.0. Regular fertilization supports healthy growth.

Growing to 20 to 28 inches, Purple Cabomba Furcata is a background plant requiring consistently excellent conditions for its best color. Without high light and soft, slightly acidic water the vivid red-purple fades. Regular trimming maintains compact, vibrantly colored growth and promotes fresh, most vividly colored new stems. The fine feathery leaves are most beautifully arranged in actively growing, well-maintained plants.

As a challenging plant, Purple Cabomba requires CO₂ recommended and high lighting. The tight pH range of 5.0 to 7.0 reflects the soft, acidic water preference of this South American species. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F provide comfortable conditions. Consistent fertilization in soft water supports the vivid red to purple coloration throughout the fine feathery foliage.

In the aquascape, Purple Cabomba Furcata creates a richly colored, fine-textured background display whose red-purple feathery leaves provide a cool-warm color that is genuinely rare among feathery background plants. The deep red-purple tone contrasts powerfully with green plants and pairs naturally with other warm-toned background species in Brazilian and South American biotope compositions.

Purple Cabomba Furcata is a challenging but rewarding background plant for high-tech aquarists with soft-water systems who want deep red-purple coloration in a fine, feathery-textured background form. Its jewel-like color and botanical rarity make it a prized addition to serious planted aquariums.
