Many Ancistrus (bristlenose) and other plecos will only breed when they have a snug, dark cave sized just right — the male claims it, the female lays inside, and he guards the eggs. These natural-finish caves give the exact enclosed space these fish instinctively seek, dramatically improving your odds of breeding them.
Good to Know: Cave size matters — plecos want a cave just big enough to back into snugly, which is why these come in multiple sizes. Use small for dwarf plecos and young fish, medium for typical bristlenose, and Large for bigger species. The natural ceramic finish looks tidy in a scape and provides surface for biofilm and grazing. Place the cave entrance facing slightly away from the brightest light.
