Bucephalandra Pubes 'Palm Tree'
Bucephalandra Pubes 'Palm Tree'
Bucephalandra Pubes 'Palm Tree' earns its evocative name from its distinctive growth habit — dark green leaves that radiate outward in a compact, structured arrangement reminiscent of a miniature palm tree. This unique silhouette gives the plant an architectural quality that stands apart from other Bucephalandra varieties, adding both character and a sense of organic structure to detailed aquascape compositions.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra Pubes 'Palm Tree' can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
As a true Bornean rheophyte from Indonesia, Pubes 'Palm Tree' can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to driftwood or stone at any height in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. It shares the beloved Bucephalandra trait of occasionally producing small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
This compact variety grows to just 2 to 4 inches, making it an excellent choice for foreground to midground placement in tanks of any size. It thrives in low to moderate lighting without CO₂ supplementation, and adapts comfortably to temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH of 6.0 to 7.5. Regular liquid fertilization supports steady growth and the rich color of its dark leaves.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra Pubes 'Palm Tree' is particularly effective in nano tanks where its palm-like silhouette can serve as a miniature tree form, creating a sense of scale and perspective. On larger hardscape it adds fine botanical detail. It pairs beautifully with mosses draped over the same piece of driftwood, enhancing the tropical forest floor aesthetic that its name evokes.
Bucephalandra Pubes 'Palm Tree' is a plant for aquascapers who appreciate fine botanical detail and structural variety. Its compact size, unique growth form, and classic Bucephalandra hardiness make it a rewarding and distinctive addition to any planted aquarium.
