Bucephalandra pandora queen
Bucephalandra pandora queen
Bucephalandra pandora queen is a captivating small foreground variety whose dark green leaves display a stunning blue and purple iridescence that is particularly vivid under good aquarium lighting. The shifting interplay of blue, purple, and green across each leaf surface evokes the mythological richness of its name — a plant that seems to hold extraordinary visual treasures within its modest, compact form.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra pandora queen can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
As a Bornean species from Indonesia, pandora queen can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to driftwood or stone at any height in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. CO₂ supplementation is not required, and the plant grows comfortably in low to moderate lighting. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH range of 6.0 to 7.4 provide comfortable conditions. Like all Bucephalandra, pandora queen can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Growing to just 1 to 2 inches, pandora queen is one of the smallest Bucephalandra available and is perfectly suited to foreground placement and detailed hardscape work. Regular liquid fertilization supports both the health and the iridescent color quality of the leaves.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra pandora queen is a jewel of the foreground — a tiny plant whose iridescent color creates an impression far larger than its physical size would suggest. Grouping several specimens together on a featured piece of stone creates a stunning, shimmering display. Pairing it with fine mosses like Mini Christmas Moss or Fissidens allows the purple-blue iridescence to be displayed against a fresh green backdrop.
Bucephalandra pandora queen is a miniature masterpiece. Its extraordinary iridescence, easy care, and tiny size make it one of the most rewarding Bucephalandra for nano tanks and detailed foreground compositions.
