Bucephalandra Goliath

Bucephalandra Goliath lives up to its mighty name as one of the largest varieties in the genus, producing long, deep green to bluish leaves on distinctive red to pink stems that create a bold, dramatic presence in the planted aquarium. Where most Bucephalandra are compact foreground plants, Goliath's substantial leaf size and impressive height give it the gravitas of a true midground statement plant — an unusual and exciting trait within a genus known for its miniature forms.

Planting tip: Bucephalandra Goliath can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.

Like all Bucephalandra, Goliath originates from Indonesia and can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to hardscape at any position in the tank. The contrast between the deep green to bluish foliage and the red to pink stems is one of Goliath's defining visual features. As with all Bucephalandra, it can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline under comfortable, stable conditions.

Goliath reaches 6 to 12 inches in height, making it the largest-growing Bucephalandra available. It grows best in low to moderate lighting, does not require CO₂ supplementation, and thrives in temperatures between 72 and 82°F with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. Regular liquid fertilization supports the vigorous leaf production needed to maintain this variety's impressive stature.

In the aquascape, Bucephalandra Goliath is best positioned in the midground of larger tanks where its size can be fully appreciated. Its bold leaves create shelter for fish and shrimp, and the blue-green coloration pairs beautifully with red or orange stem plants. It is particularly striking on large pieces of driftwood where the red stems and broad leaves create a layered, naturalistic effect.

Bucephalandra Goliath is a landmark plant for collectors and serious aquascapers — the rare Bucephalandra that can anchor an entire aquascape layout with its commanding scale and color.
