Bucephalandra Godzilla
Bucephalandra Godzilla
Bucephalandra Godzilla brings a suitably bold personality to the genus — one of the faster-growing Bucephalandra varieties with ruffled, heavily textured leaves that give the plant a dynamic, energetic appearance. The ruffled leaf form and relatively vigorous growth rate for a Bucephalandra make Godzilla a practical and rewarding choice for aquarists who want the beauty and character of the genus with more visible developmental progress over time.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra Godzilla can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
Like all Bucephalandra from Indonesia, Godzilla can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to wood or rock at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. It is rated moderate in difficulty and benefits from medium lighting with optional CO₂ supplementation. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH range of 6.0 to 7.0 provide ideal conditions. Like all Bucephalandra, Godzilla can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Godzilla grows to 2 to 4 inches in height. Its relative vigor compared to typical Bucephalandra means it establishes itself on hardscape more quickly and develops into a fuller, more impressive specimen within a shorter timeframe. Regular liquid fertilization supports the more active leaf production of this variety.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra Godzilla earns its name as a foreground to midground plant with enough visual presence to command attention on featured pieces of hardscape. The ruffled leaves catch light from multiple angles, creating an interesting textured display. Paired with smaller, more compact Bucephalandra varieties, Godzilla provides scale and contrast that enriches the overall composition.
Bucephalandra Godzilla is a bold, fast-developing variety for aquarists who want the beauty of Bucephalandra with a more dynamic and rewarding growth rate.
