Bucephalandra Dark Phantom
Bucephalandra Dark Phantom
Bucephalandra Dark Phantom is a striking small variety with dark leaves carrying distinctive bluish undertones that give the plant a cool, ethereal quality perfectly captured by its ghostly name. The combination of very dark foliage and subtle blue shimmer creates a plant of sophisticated, atmospheric beauty — a plant whose full quality is revealed gradually as the eye adjusts to its quiet but unmistakable color presence.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra Dark Phantom can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
As a Bornean Bucephalandra from Indonesia, Dark Phantom can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. This easy-care variety is particularly well suited to low-tech tanks, growing well in low to moderate lighting without CO₂ supplementation. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5 provide comfortable conditions. Like all Bucephalandra, Dark Phantom can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Growing to 1 to 2 inches, Dark Phantom is compact and suited to foreground hardscape work in tanks of any size. Regular liquid fertilization supports healthy leaf production and the maintenance of the bluish undertones in the dark foliage.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra Dark Phantom creates a cool, dark foreground accent that adds depth and atmospheric quality to the layout. The blue undertones are most visible on pale or light-colored hardscape where the dark leaf base allows the subtle blue shimmer to emerge. In low-tech planted tanks and shrimp aquariums, Dark Phantom is a practical and visually sophisticated choice.
Bucephalandra Dark Phantom is a quietly beautiful, practically accessible plant that rewards patient observation with growing appreciation. Dark, blue, and hauntingly lovely.
