Bucephalandra Blue Theia
Bucephalandra Blue Theia
Bucephalandra Blue Theia is a compact foreground variety prized for its tight, rosette-like growth habit and pronounced metallic blue and purple hues that make it one of the most striking small Bucephalandra varieties available. The densely clustered, rounded leaves display a vivid iridescent quality that intensifies under good lighting, creating a shimmering display of cool blue and purple tones that draws the eye immediately in any aquascape.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra Blue Theia can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
Blue Theia originates from Indonesia and can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. This variety grows without requiring CO₂ supplementation and benefits from low to moderate lighting. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH of 6.0 to 7.5 provide ideal conditions. Like all Bucephalandra, Blue Theia can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Growing to just 1 to 2 inches, Blue Theia is one of the most compact Bucephalandra available, making it ideal for foreground placement in tanks of any size. Regular liquid fertilization maintains the compact rosette form and supports the vivid blue and purple color expression.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra Blue Theia is a jewel of the foreground whose compact size and intense iridescence create visual impact far greater than its physical dimensions suggest. Pairing it alongside Bucephalandra Theia — its slightly larger, more elongated sibling — on the same piece of hardscape creates a beautiful display of complementary forms and color. On dark substrate or contrasting with deep green plants, the metallic blue-purple hues are most vivid.
Bucephalandra Blue Theia is a miniature masterpiece. Its extraordinary iridescence, compact rosette growth, and easy care make it a top-tier foreground plant for any planted aquarium.
