Salty Shrimp Black Water Powder SE/Fulvin+ recreates the natural "blackwater" conditions that so many of our favorite fish and shrimp evolved in. It's a powdered blend of humic and fulvic acids plus valuable trace elements — the very substances found in practically every natural body of water, leached from leaves, wood, and soil, that are completely absent from tap, RO, or remineralized water. Adding them back recreates the soft, tannin-rich water of an Amazon stream or a Southeast Asian peat swamp.
Why Humic Substances Matter: These aren't just for show. Humic and fulvic acids reduce stress and stimulate the immune system, ease and support molting in shrimp and other crustaceans, bind heavy metals and ammonium (lowering the risk of ammonia), help suppress some algae, and gently inhibit fungal and bacterial problems. They also improve osmoregulation at the gills, which frees up energy for growth, color, and breeding — which is why blackwater conditions so often bring out the best in fish and shrimp.
A Gentle, Natural pH Buffer: For soft-water keepers this is the standout benefit — the humic substances buffer pH down into the gentle 5–6.5 range and protect the tank against a sudden, dangerous pH crash. That makes it a natural fit for blackwater fish (many tetras, rasboras, bettas, Apistogramma) and for soft-water Caridina shrimp like crystals and Taiwan bees, where it complements an active substrate beautifully.
Good to Know — the tea-colored tint: When you first dose it, the water may take on a light brownish, tea-like color — this is completely normal and clears to crystal-clear within a while as it settles. If the tint lingers for several days, simply check your filtration or ease back on the dose. Many aquascapers actually prize the subtle amber tint as part of the natural blackwater aesthetic.
Dosing Guidelines: Simply sprinkle the desired amount of powder onto the water surface — it dissolves easily at any pH. A typical maintenance dose is about 1 gram per 50 liters (~13 gallons) per week, adjusted to how heavily your tank is stocked. Start on the lighter side and increase to taste; there's a lot of flexibility here. This 65 gram jar lasts a long time at normal dosing.
