Good to Know: Being botanical and mild, Melafix is easy on the biofilter and is often used preventively when adding new fish. One important caution: tea-tree treatments like Melafix and Pimafix can harm the labyrinth organ of labyrinth fish — bettas and gouramis — so use the dedicated Betta formula or an alternative for those species. It's frequently paired with Pimafix for broader coverage.
Think of it as a first-aid, tissue-repair remedy for minor external issues rather than a heavy-duty cure for an advanced infection, which calls for a true antibiotic.
Dosing Guidelines: Dose per the label, typically daily for about a week, with a water change at the end of the course. Avoid with bettas and gouramis (use the betta-specific version). Remove activated carbon while treating.
