Bucephalandra sp White
Bucephalandra sp White
Bucephalandra sp White is a rare and unusual variant that produces leaves with distinctly light, white-toned coloration — a striking departure from the greens, blues, and purples that characterize most Bucephalandra varieties. This unusual coloration makes it one of the rarest and most visually distinctive plants in the genus, a genuine collector's specimen that requires additional care to maintain the pale color that makes it special.
Planting tip: Bucephalandra sp White can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface, or attached to driftwood, rock, or other hardscape at any position in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome under substrate, as this will cause rot. If attaching to hardscape, use cotton thread or aquarium-safe adhesive to secure it, and the plant will anchor itself naturally over time.
As a Bornean rhizome plant from Indonesia, sp White can be planted with the rhizome resting at the substrate surface or attached to driftwood or stone at any height in the aquarium. Never fully bury the rhizome. Unlike most Bucephalandra, this variety requires medium to high lighting and CO₂ supplementation is recommended to support healthy growth and maintain the characteristic white coloration. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH of 6.0 to 7.0 provide appropriate conditions. Like all Bucephalandra, it can produce small, delicate white flowers both underwater and above the waterline.
Growing to 1 to 3 inches, sp White is compact and suited to foreground and hardscape placement. Careful attention to water quality, consistent fertilization, and appropriate lighting are important for maintaining the pale leaf color that defines this variety.
In the aquascape, Bucephalandra sp White creates a genuinely eye-catching focal point wherever it is placed. The white or near-white leaf color creates striking contrast against any dark hardscape, dark substrate, or deeply colored companion plants. In nano tanks it is an immediate conversation piece; in larger layouts it creates a bright, unique accent that draws the eye instantly.
Bucephalandra sp White is a rare variety for dedicated collectors who want something truly unusual. Its care requirements are higher than most Bucephalandra, but the reward — a genuinely white-toned aquarium plant — is unlike anything else in the freshwater hobby.
