Alocasia Princeps, also known under the accepted synonym Alocasia porphyroneura, is native to Borneo, growing as a small, lithophytic plant on limestone from sea level up to around 2,000 feet. It stays compact — typically 10–12 inches — with several dull to slightly glossy, gray-green, arrowhead to narrowly triangular leaves on gray-green to purple-brown petioles.
Note: as a freshly imported bare-root plant, this specimen typically arrives with just a few leaves — the photo shows a more mature, fuller specimen for reference.
Care tip: As a natural lithophyte growing on limestone, this species wants excellent drainage and doesn't need constant moisture — err toward a drier mix than you would for a swamp-forest Alocasia.
Compared to the well-known Alocasia sanderiana, this species shows deep brownish-green arrowhead leaves with purple undersides and a more relaxed, less densely packed silver venation, along with leaf margins that are noticeably less wavy. Give it bright indirect light, a fast-draining, mineral-rich mix, and moderate, careful watering that respects its rocky native habitat.
A compact, genuinely Bornean species for collectors who appreciate the subtler, more understated end of the Alocasia spectrum — quieter than its showier sanderiana relative, but no less a true species.
