Galapagos Ornamental Driftwood is natural driftwood selected for aquascaping and terrarium/vivarium use — characterful, gnarled pieces that make a striking natural centerpiece. Each piece is unique in shape and grain, perfect for anchoring an aquascape, providing cover and grazing surface for fish and shrimp, and giving plants like Anubias and moss a place to attach. Good to Know: Natural driftwood is the heart of a nature-style scape — it provides biofilm for shrimp to graze, hiding places that reduce fish stress, and over time a beautifully aged look. The tannins it releases gently soften and acidify water, which many blackwater fish and shrimp appreciate.
Preparation: New driftwood leaches tannins that tint the water a natural tea color (harmless, and many aquascapers love the blackwater look). To reduce it, soak the wood for a few days to a couple of weeks, changing the water, before adding it. Most woods need weighting or anchoring until waterlogged enough to sink.
