Galapagos Hollow Tree Root is a striking natural driftwood piece with a hollow, cave-like form — equally at home as an aquascape centerpiece or in a terrarium/vivarium. The hollow interior makes an instant cave that fish, plecos, and shrimp shelter in, while the gnarled exterior anchors a natural scape and gives moss, ferns, and Anubias a place to attach. Available in Medium and Large.
Good to Know: The built-in cave is a real bonus — it gives shy fish and bottom-dwellers (plecos, loaches, catfish) a secure retreat that reduces stress, and the whole piece provides biofilm grazing for shrimp. It works beautifully half-buried or as a dramatic standalone feature.
Preparation: New driftwood leaches tannins that tint the water a natural tea color (harmless, and many aquascapers love the blackwater look). To reduce it, soak the wood for a few days to a couple of weeks, changing the water, before adding it. Most woods need weighting or anchoring until waterlogged enough to sink.
Each piece is natural and one-of-a-kind, so size, shape, and color vary — part of the appeal when building a unique scape.
