Microbe-Lift Special Blend is a live bacterial culture — "a complete ecosystem in a bottle" — that establishes and maintains a stable biological system in fresh or saltwater aquariums. Its specialized consortium of bacteria digests organic waste (including the hard-to-degrade gunk ordinary bacteria leave behind), helps reduce ammonia and nitrite, and even biologically lowers nitrate. The result is cleaner, clearer water, less frequent cleaning, and a reduced need for water changes.
Good to Know: Special Blend works beautifully in planted tanks, and it's genuinely hard to overdose — the bacteria simply work to the available food supply. Two tips from the maker: condition your water first (chlorine and chloramine will harm the live bacteria, so dechlorinate before dosing), and for a brand-new tank it pairs with Microbe-Lift Nite-Out II to cycle the system quickly. It's safe for fish, plants, shrimp, and snails.
Dosing Guidelines: Shake well. For a typical tank, an initial dose (about 15 mL per 10–15 gallons) at startup, then a weekly dose for the first month, settling into a small maintenance dose every week or two thereafter — follow the bottle's schedule for your volume. Use the new-tank rate when first establishing or after a major clean.
