Dr. Tim's Ammonium Chloride Solution is the key ingredient for a fishless cycle — the safest, most humane way to establish a new aquarium's biological filter. Instead of subjecting fish to toxic ammonia while the tank matures, you add a measured dose of this pure ammonium chloride to feed the beneficial bacteria directly, building a robust biofilter before any livestock goes in. When the cycle is done, the tank can handle a full fish load right away.
Good to Know: Fishless cycling is the gold standard, and it pairs perfectly with a bottled bacteria starter (like Dr. Tim's One & Only or Seachem Stability): the bacteria seed the tank, and this ammonia feeds them. Dose to a target of around 2 ppm ammonia, then test daily — when both ammonia and nitrite read zero within 24 hours, your tank is fully cycled and ready for fish.
How to Use: Add drops to reach ~2 ppm total ammonia (the label gives the per-gallon rate), re-dosing to keep the bacteria fed until the cycle completes. Test ammonia and nitrite daily to track progress.
